Duke of Edinburgh

Home Economics has lost popularity in the curriculum in recent years, leaving many school leavers without the skills of meal planning, budgeting and core techniques for the preparation and presentation of food. Foodworks Cookery School has responded with an exciting residential course aimed at equipping students with the confidence and ability to not only cater for themselves upon leaving school but to develop an enthusiasm and enjoyment for cooking.

For students undertaking the Gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award it is necessary to spend five days and four nights away from home on a shared activity with people you have never met before. The residential courses from Foodworks Cookery School meet the requirements for the award and offer the opportunity for students learn skills which are highly transferable.  All DofE students will receive accredited certification on completion of the course, which will be forwarded to DofE.  Students can then access this through the DofE portal to enable them to sign off completion of their Gold DofE Award.

As working with new people is a crucial component of the award, our course ensures plenty of time for socialisation from tasks where the students work in teams to the evening activities such as clay pigeon shooting, rounders, croquet.

The course is also a wonderful module for young people putting together a gap year of experiences. Employers are increasingly interested in the details of gap years and as all students receive a Foodworks Cookery School certificate upon completion, this course demonstrates a commitment to personal development and the acquisition of key life skills.

We suggest that you consider taking out your own insurance policy to cover any cancellations as we are unable to offer refunds.  However, if we have a minimum six weeks’ notice, we are happy to reschedule your course date.
